Before you come into DMV to take your knowledge test, practice taking one (or all) of these sample tests.
When you are ready to take the actual test, keep these suggestions in mind:
USAREUR License. Solid and Broken White Line. Indicates that passing is allowed for drivers on the side of the broken line and prohibited for drivers on the side of the solid line. Directional Arrows. Painted on the road in front of an intersection to warn drivers to position their vehicles in the correct lane. We have hundreds of free drivers license practice test questions and answers that are updated every 6 months for accuracy in each of the 50 states. We feature DMV learning series tests as well as a final driving exam series. Both testing series contain 9 different learner's permit tests.
Review the California Driver Handbook. It contains a lot of information and it may take you a few days to get through it.
Read the test questions carefully. Don't read anything extra into the question. There will be one correct answer and the other two answer choices will be either obviously wrong or not appropriate for the question asked.
Remember, all the test questions are taken from the handbook. If you miss a question, the field office employee can tell you on which page to find the correct answer.
Don't be nervous. DMV wants you to pass your test. Good Luck!
CAUTION: Your browser must be JavaScript enabled to complete the sample driver license knowledge test. Only JavaScript enabled browsers will check your answer and provide an immediate pop-up response indicating if your answer was correct or not.
Browsers that do not support JavaScript may seem to indicate the wrong answer as the correct answer. An answer sheet is provided for those browsers which do not support JavaScript. New questions will be added periodically.

The written exam is based on information presented in your state's driver license manual.
While your manual is a great place to start studying because it has all the information you need, you may find that it's hard to dig through all of the information for review. This is where you may benefit from additional study materials.

With study materials like those provided by our certified partner, you'll get the answers you need to pass the test the first time around. To prepare, simply print your study guide and take a few moments to review the material.

Requirements for Getting Your License
When you make a trip to the DMV to get your license, make sure you're prepared with:
The specific items you need to bring with you.
The knowledge to pass the exam.
A study guide like one from our approved partner will ensure you come to the DMV prepared with both of the above. A good study guide will not only have a comprehensive yet condensed review of the relevant information but will also:
Show a list of DMV fees.
Detail the steps on getting your license.
List out what you'll need to bring with you on test day.
If you don't have a study guide, however, you can visit our Apply for License section to make sure you get the information you need to know about applying for your new driver's license.
